Fundamental Evil?

Rant time:

So this morning I was watching Hannity and Colmes or whatever its called, and this guy was on there talking about how Al Queda was enlisting 15 year olds, and this is a quote from memory:

"[Al Queda] is fundamentally evil, they twist ancient scriptures to support their interpretations"

Okay, I have many points. The first is just about how they are making a big deal over 15 year olds supporting terrorism and being active, yet they do not say anything about how US army representatives are in highschools every day recruiting. I am 15, and it insults me that the show made it seem like people my age are being tricked. We can think for ourselves, and make conscious decisions. Just because we are legally children doesnt mean we do not have opinions on global matters.
Next: the 'twisting of ancient scriptures to support their interpretations'. Essentially that is all modern religion is, manipulating the words of a holy text to support your claims. Think of all the divisions of Christianity; they exist because of different interpretations. The word 'twisted' is simply thrown in to make it seem more sinister, and not the same exact thing as religion everywhere else.

Another point: "Fundamentally evil". What the hell is fundamental evil? Google defines fundamentally as "basically: at bottom or by one's (or its) very nature" and evil as "morally bad or wrong". So the nature of Al Queda is morally wrong? I really do beg to differ. They have different morals from us, and all they are doing is following what they believe their God wants. Many religious people in the states go to church on Sunday because that is what they believe God wants, or volunteer at hospitals and homes for the disabled because they were taught it is the 'right' thing. And I am not saying that helping others is wrong, or trying to justify the terrorists perspective. I'm just trying to get you to view it through their eyes.

I'm not sorry I'm so upset, but I am sorry that your tv show makes such generalizations and misconceptions. Dont condemn something in the Middle East that is justified here. Hopefully someone will actually read this instead of sending me a generic 'thank you for your feedback' email. If you do read it, thanks. If you dont... well... lets just say I'll be thinking alot of things that wouldn't be professional to include in this letter.

Sincerly,
Caitlin Reddington Davis
